Program Awards San Mateo Co. Schools $16k In Education Grants

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Four schools in San Mateo County have been awarded a combined $16,000 in grants that will fund programs ranging from playground supplies to security systems to Chromebook laptops that will be used inside classrooms.

The grants, presented on Dec. 12 to students and teachers, were given out as part of the Wells Fargo KNBR Step Up to the Plate program, which has granted more than $1.3 million over the last 18 years.

Brandon Crawford, shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, helped present the combined $100,000 in grants to 32 Bay Area schools.

The local schools recognized were Cabrillo School in Pacifica, Green Hills Elementary in Millbrae, Holy Angels School in Colma and St. Robert Catholic School in San Bruno.

Pacifica's Cabrillo School received $4,000, which will go toward the purchase of Imagination Playground oversized foam blocks to be used during recess and P.E. class.

In Millbrae, Green Hills Elementary will put $2,000 in funding to use by purchasing new playground supplies including basketball hoops, tether balls, Connect Four and Tic Tac Toe games.

Holy Angels School in Colma will use its $5,000 grant to upgrade part of its cyclone wire fence and buy a security camera.

In San Bruno, St. Robert Catholic School will purchase Chromebooks for classrooms in an effort to enhance the curriculum.
