Redwood City Approves $5 Hazard Pay For Grocers, Essential Retail

The Redwood City Council passed an immediate hazard pay mandate that will boost the paychecks of grocery store and drugstore workers.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Effective immediately, Redwood City grocery store and drugstore workers will see a $5 bump in pay. The city council passed an ordinance mandating hazard pay on Monday evening.

The urgent pay raises kick in this week and will expire on July 11, less than a month after the state is expected to fully reopen. All part-time and full-time employees at qualifying stores with 750 or more employees are eligible for hazard pay.
