Redwood City Public Library Named Finalist For National Award

The Redwood City Public Library was the only library in the state of California among the 30 finalists for the award.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Redwood City Public Library was named a finalist for the 2021 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor given to museums and libraries for making an impact in serving their communities.

The Redwood City Public Library was the only library in the state of California to be among the 30 finalists for the award, according to a news release.

Redwood City Mayor Diane Howard attributed the recognition to the library’s “creative and innovative approaches to fulfill its mission to cultivate community by welcoming all people to experience the shared joys of literacy and learning.”

“The library’s success in working toward its community aspirations of inclusion, equity, awareness, safety, and education has always been meaningful to our community, but the library’s services were truly a lifeline for residents during the incredible challenges of this past year,” Howard said in a news release. “We are genuinely honored and delighted by this recognition for our extraordinary library.”

California Sen. Alex Padilla tweeted a congratulatory message to the library.

“In the face of a pandemic, their efforts to help educate and serve their community have never been more critical,” Padilla said. “They make California proud.”

The winners of the National Medal will be announced in late spring.
