Redwood City Resident Arrested In Connection With Random Assault

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said that a woman was tackled while she was riding on a trail adjacent to a Half Moon Bay beach.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — A Redwood City resident was arrested Tuesday in connection with an assault on a woman riding a bicycle at Surfer’s Beach in Half Moon Bay.

On Tuesday morning, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said that a woman was tackled while she was riding on a trail adjacent to the beach. The suspect, Andrew William Seba Kern, took the bike, threw it down on her and then threatened a witness who tried to help, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff deputies responded within minutes of 911 calls and arrested Kern after witnesses pointed him out. The victim was not seriously hurt.

Kern was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, committing a felony while out on bail and intimidating a witness.
