This leaves the race, coming up on its 102nd year, only four months to find a new major sponsor, as the race is scheduled for May 19.
Chronicle reporters Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross say they were told a "marquee sponsorship" could cost a company anywhere from $250,000 to $500,000.

"Even then, we're told, that doesn't cover the cost of putting on the race, said to be upward of $1 million," they said.
Matier and Ross also reported they were told by a Bay to Breakers representative that, whether or not they find a new major sponsor, the race will go on.
