REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Fair Oaks Branch Library will be run by San Mateo County Libraries beginning Mar. 15, with operations transferring to the county from Redwood City.

In a news release on Wednesday, Redwood City officials noted the move will “increase public service hours of operation and expansion of programs.” The city will continue to provide funding to the library, which will increase its service hours to 60 hours per week and be renamed the North Fair Oaks Library.

The library, located at 2510 Middlefield Road, will be the 13th city branch operated by San Mateo County Libraries, which manages different library branches in the county. The county has owned and maintained the building since 1995, and the library will remain under the Peninsula Library System so the public can access its materials throughout the county.

“This library is a community treasure,” San Mateo County Supervisor Warren Slocum said in the news release. “With increased hours both for curbside service, and for when it fully reopens, this library will serve and meet the needs of the families in North Fair Oaks — particularly the children.”

Diane Howard, Redwood City’s mayor, added that the city is proud of the services the library has provided over several decades.
