Suspected Redwood City Arsonist Charged After Fire At Church
Police said the suspect admitted to her involvement in a fire at the Rise City Church on Middlefield Road last Wednesday night.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A fire at a church in Redwood City last week was started by an arsonist, according to police.
Maria Zuria, 58, admitted to her involvement in a fire at the Rise City Church on Middlefield Road last Wednesday night and was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of arson, police announced in a news release.
A planter box at the church was discovered on fire, and the fire was spreading to the building’s entrance before it was extinguished by the Redwood City Fire Department. The building suffered damage from smoke and to the sprinkler system.

Detectives said that surveillance footage showed a suspect later identified Zurita at the scene.
Zurita was booked into San Mateo County Jail on arson charges.
