Tues., Feb. 15: Head to the first of the Family Author Night Series to listen to author/illustrator Hector Viveros Lee read his very own masterpieces: I Had a Hippopotamus. Tuesday’s event will kick-off at 6 p.m. at Hoover Elementary School, with five more Family Author Nights. A grand total of 1,987 books will be given away to students, thanks to collaboration with the Friends of the Library. Elizabeth Gomez takes over after that, appearing at Taft School on March 15, Selby Lane on March 16, Fair Oaks on March 17, Garfield on April 7, and Hawes on April 28. Elizabeth is a local talent– check out her mural in the Family Place of the Downtown Library – whose book The Upside Down Boy/El niño de cabeza, will be given away to students.

Wed., Feb. 16:

Take your photo with the San Francisco Giants World Champions Trophy at Courthouse Square from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. You’ll have the opportunity to view the trophy in person and take your photo on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to get there early! Today's homeowners are remaining in their existing homes longer than in the past which is increasing the importance of accessibility issues in home design.  Iris Harrell of Harrell Remodeling will share design ideas on how to convert existing homes to healthier, more energy efficient and lower maintenance ones at the next green Verde Talk at 6:30 p.m. Also, Rebuilding Together Peninsula will host a table during the networking mixer to discuss their programs designed to help seniors, families and people with disabilities to live in greater independence. Thurs., Feb. 17: Make a book with your kids at a Bookmaking Extravaganza at the Downtown Library at 6:30 p.m. Books That Free Your Inner Artist will present three hands-on projects, all using wildly colored paper that participants get to paint themselves. The colored sheets will then become wrap-around jackets for little booklets, envelopes that double as covers for accordion books and bookmarks. Everyone—children, teens, families, adults—is welcome. Fri., Feb. 18: You can still listen to the King of Pop! Foreverland, the 14-piece show band that pay shomage to Michael Jackson’s unparalleled talent and timeless music will be performing at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.
