San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after two people said he pointed a handgun at them and broke the window of a vehicle belonging to one of them.

Officers received a call from the two of the three victims at 10:13 p.m. Saturday, reporting that a man had assaulted them at a house party in the 900 block of Lakeview Drive in unincorporated Redwood City.

Sheriff’s officials said the victims admitted they had shown up at the suspect’s house uninvited for a party.

When they arrived, the suspect, Jason Jones, told them they were unwelcome and a verbal argument ensued. When the victims began to leave the house, Jones chased them down the driveway, brandishing a handgun, according to sheriff’s officials. Jones then pointed the gun at the head of one of the victims and also broke the vehicle window.

After speaking with witnesses at the party and conducting additional investigation, deputies issued a warrant for Jones’ arrest and arrested him Tuesday morning at his home.

Detectives also conducted a search of Jones’ residence, according to the sheriff’s office. Jones was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility with bail set at $60,000, sheriff’s officials said. Jones’ case will now be referred to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, according to the sheriff’s office.
