Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Burlingame Freeway Crash
Officers responded to reports Monday at around 6:45 a.m. of a two-vehicle collision on U.S.-101 northbound, south of Broadway, the CHP said.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — A wrong-way driver was killed Monday morning in a Peninsula freeway crash, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers responded to reports at around 6:45 a.m. of a two-vehicle collision on U.S.-101 northbound, south of Broadway, the CHP said.
Upon arrival at the scene, Redwood City officers determined that one of the involved vehicles, a gray Mazda MPV minivan, entered U.S.-101 northbound the wrong way, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes from Broadway, the CHP said.

The Mazda continued to travel wrong and collided head-on with a Kenworth dump truck way in the No. 4 lane. according to the CHP.
The force of the collision disabled both vehicles and the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 lanes were blocked on US-101 northbound, south of Broadway, the CHP said.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced deceased at the scene, the CHP said. The driver of the Kenworth was uninjured.
The Nos. 3, 4, and 5 lanes were closed for some time to facilitate the investigation, the CHP said.
The San Mateo County Coroner's Office responded to the scene. It is not yet known if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.
