60-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver Identified

A 57-year-old woman bicycling with the victim suffered minor injuries.

OAKLAND, CA — A man who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while he was bicycling in East Oakland last week was identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau today as 60-year-old Anthony Curtis of Oakland.

Curtis and a 57-year-old woman were biking south in the 1000 block of 69th Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a vehicle that was also traveling south, police said. The Oakland Fire Department and emergency medical services responded to the collision but Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The 57-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was released, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle fled the area south on 69th Avenue, police said.

Authorities didn't release a description of the driver but described the vehicle as a newer model that's maroon in color.

The collision is still under investigation and police do not know if drugs or alcohol were factors.
