Albany Man Identified as Driver Killed During High Winds Thursday Night
Oakland police say the victim apparently was trying to avoid wind-blown debris in the road when his Volkswagen swerved.

The driver who was killed on Skyline Boulevard in Oakland Thursday night in one of two deaths linked by news reports to that evening's high winds was a 29-year-old Albany man, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.
The solo driver, John Koehn, was driving a late-model Volkswagen Golf and was killed when he hit a tree beside the road at 13001 Skyline shortly before 8:50 p.m., the coroner's bureau said.
Oakland police said he apparently was trying to avoid wind-blown debris in the road, the Oakland Tribune reported.
The coroner's bureau says the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
On the same night, a 24-year-old man on Austin Street in Oakland's Fruitvale District was killed when he was hit by a limb, the coroner's bureau said.
