Chez Panisse Veteran Opens Oakland Restaurant

OAKLAND, CA — If you've dined at Chez Panisse over the years, chances are you've eaten something wonderful prepared by Cal Peternell. He left the Berkeley restaurant two years ago after a 22 year stint.

Since then, he's written a cookbook, launched a podcast called “Cooking by Ear,” and checked other things of his to-do list.

Now, he's heading back into the kitchen to open an Oakland restaurant named Lede, offering takeout only lunch service stating Monday, and dinner starting on Oct. 5.

The menu is described as Cal-Italian and will change with the seasons. Sound familiar, Chez Panisse fans?

The Lede is located at 906 Washington St., Oakland.
