"Prior to the start of this project, the City of Oakland reached a settlement with Caltrans requiring that $8 million be made available to implement projects within the City of Oakland.

"In 2010-2011 representatives of Fourth Bore Coalition, North Hills Community Association, Rockridge Community Planning Council, East Bay Bicycle Coalition, Temescal community groups (NOVA, STAND and ULTRA} and Rockridge and Temescal business districts participated in a year-long process to develop a list of projects to be paid for with this funding.

"Since this list was finalized, City of Oakland staff and our consultants have been working to develop detailed designs of the first projects on the list, including [these] two."

The preliminary designs reflect public input received at earlier meetings, the announcement says.
