Oakland Elizabeth House is a residence for single mothers and their children who have experienced homelessness, violence, addiction or poverty.
Established in 1991, the results-oriented program includes job training, academic tutoring, and classes on money management, communication skills, and parenting.
We attribute our high success rate to our stable and pro-active environment that provides all members of the family with access to resources that make a long-term impact.
Over 500 families have lived at Elizabeth House and 90% of them have successfully transitioned into safe, permanent housing and improved employment opportunities. Residents have accomplished life-changing goals, including earning certificates or advanced degrees in Substance Abuse Counseling, Licensed Vocational Nursing, and Computer Information Management.
Guest speaker Rachael Myrow holds a UC Berkeley graduate degree in journalism, a degree she pursued after getting hooked on public radio working at the campus station, KALXFM.
She landed her first job as a producer with Marketplace Radio in Los Angeles, becoming an all-purpose editor, reporter and fill-in host before spending the next six years reporting full-time for KPCC-FM in Los Angeles.
She returned to the Bay Area in 2007 to host the daily edition of KQED’s The California Report. Rachael’s work has won her over 10 prestigious press, television and radio awards.
Oakland Elizabeth House is a non-denominational, 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
