Foodie Alert: Questions for Jules Thin Crust
The new pizza place will open in a week or two across the street from Zachary's.

Rockridge Patch asked Heather Clapp about the pizza place she and her husband are opening at 5804 College Ave.
Who are the owners of Jules Thin Crust? Jeff and Heather Clapp are the owners of Jules Thin Crust in Rockridge and Danville. Our good friends and partners, John and Jan Ordway, are the owners (and Founders) of Jules Thin Crust that originated in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
What made you want to open a pizza place in Rockridge? We've lived here for the past 10 years and we love thin crust pizza. However, it was expensive taking our family out for healthy, organic thin crust pizza. We'd always wished there were a place where we could take our family that was not only affordable, but was healthy, organic, thin crust, and had a nice beverage and salad selection.

What sort of pizza will be the specialty of the restaurant? Organic thin crust pizza. It's more about the toppings than about the crust. We use fresh, local, organic toppings for our pizzas. We offer organic white, organic whole wheat and a gluten-free crust.
Can you tell us a little bit about your culinary background? My husband and I (as well as our good friends - the Ordways) are not professional chefs. We all share a passion for wholesome, locally sourced, fresh ingredients and all enjoy cooking, gardening, frequenting farms and farmers markets each week, sitting down with our families for dinner as often as possible, and feeding the best food possible to our children.

What's your favorite pizza place now? Hmmmm... that's a tough one. There are so many great places out there doing totally different things. For great New York style pizza... we have to go with Gioia in Berkeley. For Chicago style pizza... we have to go with Zachary's. And for fresh, organic thin crust... we've got to say Jules Thin Crust!
When is opening day? We're very close... perhaps in another week or two we'll have our doors fully opened. Will keep you posted.
Will you deliver? For large catering orders of six or seven large pizzas or more, we will deliver (if we are staffed accordingly). However, for single takeout orders, we will not deliver.
Anything else you want us to know about? In addition to ordering a whole pie, many of our pizzas can be ordered by the slice. This is a nice option for those who are looking for a lighter lunch or dinner option. We also offer seasonal varieties such as butternut squash with ricotta, mascarpone, caramelized onion and green apple or currently we are running a customer favorite - our Spring Asparagus Pie using produce sourced from Zuckerman Farm.
