Golden State Warriors Players, Coaches Pledge $75,000 to Fire Relief Fund

Various relief funds have raised more than $1 million for victims and their families.

OAKLAND, CA — Players and coaches from the Golden State Warriors are adding $75,000 to a previous monetary pledge from the team that is intended to help the families of the 36 people killed in last week's Oakland warehouse fire.

The team, which previously donated $50,000 to the Oakland Fire Relief Fund, also issued a public service announcement expressing sympathy and encouraging viewers to make donations of their own.

"We are all devastated by the recent Oakland fire that claimed so many lives and affected so many others," the team's superstar guard Stephen Curry says in the PSA.

"We would also like to express our gratitude to the first responders working on this unthinkable recovery effort," said forward Draymond Green.

The video spot, which is being published via the team's social media accounts, then provides a link to a crowdfunding website where people can add their own donations to the fund.

So far, the site indicates that nearly 3,000 people have pledged $407,296, past the listed goal of $400,000.

It also says that the Warriors, the Oakland Raiders and the Oakland A's have made a combined pledge of $150,000.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those that have lost their lives, and our sincere condolences go out to their loved ones," Green said in a written statement announcing the players' and coaches' pledge.
