Guns, Solar Power, Finances at City Council Meeting Tonight

The agenda includes decisions on the annual financial report, solar power and claims against the city for illegal police searches. Also: should the city divest itself of holdings related to arms manufacture?

Oakland City Council members will potentially make several million dollars' worth of decisions when they meet today at City Hall, 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m., breaks for dinner and then resumes at 6:30 p.m. or later.

Among the items on the agenda:

—Settlement of claims totaling $179,969.97 for unlawful searches by the Oakland Police Department.

—Possible adoption of a policy prohibiting the city from holding any investment of ownership stake in any manufacturer of firearms. The resolution would also urge the Police And Fire Retirement System Board and the Oakland Municipal Employees Retirement System Board to adopt similar policies.

—A report on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for fiscal year 2011-2012.
