Landmark Status Expected for Rockridge Home

The three-story Morse House on Margarido Drive was built for only $20,000 in 1936.

The Oakland City Council is expected to confer city landmark status on an Upper Rockridge home at its meeting Tuesday night.

The home, known as the Morse House, is at 5654 Margarido Drive, Oakland, alongside the Claremont County Club golf course.

It was one of the homes featured on the Oakland Heritage Alliance's "Great Estates" home tour last month.

According to an article on mercurynews.com, the three-story Tudor Revival home was built in 1936 for Charles and Millie Morse and represented Oakland's recovery from the worst of the Depression. It was designed by E. Geoffrey Banks and cost $20,000 to build. It sold in 2008 for $2,250,000.
