Memorial Service For Murdered Oakland Firefighter This Saturday

OAKLAND, CA — A memorial service for murdered Oakland firefighter Jake Walter will be held this Saturday, Oakland city officials said today. It's scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center at 1547 Lakeside Drive.

The Oakland Fire Department said in a statement today that it's "grateful for the heartfelt condolences and well wishes from our Oakland community and people throughout the region as well as the phenomenal support offered by fire service agencies and first responders from around the country."

Donations in support of Walter's family and another firefighter who was shot may be made by sending a check to "Friends of Oakland Fire" or "Oakland Firefighters Local 55 Charity Fund." The mailing address for both organizations is 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 3354, Oakland, CA 94612.

Walter and another firefighter were shot last Thursday night in San Jose while they were off-duty. They were out enjoying themselves with three other off-duty firefighters when they were shot in an "unprovoked" attack.

Oliver Juinio, 27, has been arrested and charged in the crime.
