The police department will have extra staffing Sunday night.

OAKLAND, CA — Oakland police put out a statement today urging everyone not to participate in celebratory gunfire or illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve for their safety and the safety of those around them.
The police plan on staffing up and directing officers to patrol key areas of the city to ensure community safety.
Celebratory gunfire will result in arrest and possible jail time. Those caught with illegal fireworks will face anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 in fines with a possibility of imprisonment.
