St. Vincent de Paul to Hold First-Ever Earth Day E-Waste Drive, Warehouse Sale

Electronic waste will be collected on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakland store and warehouse. Thrifty shoppers will also get a chance to buy direct from the warehouse of donations.

St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County wants you to think about them while doing spring cleaning and bring electronic waste to the first-ever Earth Day event on Saturday, April 27.

As an incentive, donors dropping off more than 3 pounds of e-waste will get a free SVdP “mini-lunch.”

Plus, thrifty shoppers will get a chance to buy direct from the SVdP Warehouse of donations.

The Earth Day event takes place on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakland store and warehouse, 9235 San Leandro St. in Oakland.

WasteNot, a SVdP social enterprise, will be accepting electronic waste for free.

Acceptable donations include: working and non-working computers, monitors, TVs, laptops, computer towers, cables, printers, fax machines, scanners, DVD players, telephones and VCRs.

The company Green Work IT will provide a “hard drive destruction” service for a nominal fee of $3.

Proceeds from warehouse purchases directly fund SVdP programs, while reducing landfill waste. Donors can receive a tax-deductible receipt.

This year, marks the 75th year of the founding of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County in 1938.

SVdP includes a Community Center and Dining Room in downtown Oakland. The Vincentian volunteers also provide services to those in need through their Catholic parishes in Alameda County.

SVdP runs three thrift stores in Oakland, Fremont and Livermore, the Redux Studios and Gallery in Alameda, and WasteNot, the electronics waste recycling program – all of which provide social enterprise revenue that funds the programs throughout Alameda County.
