The Temescal Artist Who Paints in a Barn
An opening reception for Part II of a retrospective of Robert Akeley's work in planned for April 5 at Rise Above Graphics.

Temescal artist Robert Akeley doesn't quite live in a barn — his home is actually a turn-of-the-century former doctor's office — but he paints in a real barn behind the house, according to a recent profile published on Our Oakland.
A native of Maine, Akeley has lived in Oakland's Temescal district since 1970.
His work is currently on display Saturdays in a two-part retrospective exhibit at the Rise Above Graphics art gallery, 4770 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. An artist's reception is scheduled for April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m., with food and beverages from Happy Girl Kitchen and Beer Barn and music by Omega.
