Pelicans Plucked, Warriors Win Opener
NBA MVP Stephen Curry scored 40 points in the match up against the New Orleans Pelicans -- his 10th career 40-point game.

Stephen Curry had the second most points scored by a reigning NBA MVP in 52 years, scoring 40 points to lead to Golden State Warriors over the New Orleans Pelicans, 111-96, on Tuesday night.
Curry made seven of his first nine shots, including four 3-pointers in the first quarter, scoring 24 points. He finished the night 14 for 26 with seven assists and six rebounds. This was his 10th career 40-point game.
The Warriors was coached by Luke Walton on Tuesday night as coach Steve Kerr is recovering from back surgery. The team went up against a familiar face, first year New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry, who was Golden State’s assistant coach before taking the job in the Big Easy.

Gentry, along with the Warriors, received their championship ring in a pre-game ceremony at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
By halftime, Golden State was up by 10 points and was never again threatened for the rest of the game. This was the 19th straight home win for the Warriors since Jan. 31.

Golden State will next face the Rockets in Houston on Friday.
