Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire wasted no time in addressing the new legislature with her top concern: fentanyl. “The fentanyl crisis is one of the most pressing issues affecting our state and nation,” she said at the swearing-in ceremony. According to Sierra Sun, "The Placer County District Attorney’s Office has created a petition for residents to sign to encourage the legislature to act on the fentanyl crisis this legislative session.
The petition can be found at http://www.placer.ca.gov/8458/Fentanyl-petition" (Sierra Sun) - Local restaurateur Matthew Oliver conceded to David Bass in their race for Rocklin City Council. "I am excited to continue to be a voice for this region, holding our elected officials accountable. Fighting for honesty, integrity and transparency. Thank you for all of those you donated, believed in me, believed in Rocklin," Oliver said. "Thank you to the families and residents of Rocklin for your votes and for putting your trust in me. We did this together and I am truly grateful for your support," Bass said. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- After the Sierra storms this weekend, the snowpack is looking good! We're above average and way ahead of last year. That doesn't mean we're out of the drought, however. "Regardless of this year’s precipitation, redoubling efforts in conservation and planning for the future remains the pragmatic option." (Roseville Today)
- Early on November 29, Roseville PD made a traffic stop on Cirby Way and Riverside Ave. This was no routine traffic stop, though. During a search of the vehicle, the officer determined that the passenger "was in possession of a stolen revolver and methamphetamine packaged for distribution," according to RPD. Twenty-four-year-old Anthony Andrews was booked into Placer County Jail as a result of the stop. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
- New Placer County building standards will go into effect on January 1. The new code will "mandate energy storage system readiness on all new home construction; accessory structures such as sheds and barns will need to be built out of fire-resistive material when located within 50 feet of a property line; and builders must pre-install safety features to accommodate aging occupants among many other changes coming in the new year."
