Missing Hiker From Orangevale Found Injured But Alive In Sierra National Forest
The 62-year-old woman was reported missing on Aug. 21. Wildfires hampered the search.

After being missing for nearly nine days, a 62-year-old hiker from Orangevale was located injured, but alive, this morning in the Sierra National Forest, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Search teams found Miyuki Harwood in an area east of Courtright Reservoir, and she was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. The department did not disclose her injuries.
The woman disappeared last week while hiking with a Sierra Club group, and the weeklong efforts to find her were hampered by the nearby 60,238-acre Rough Fire, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti said.

Harwood, an experienced hiker, according to her friends and family, left for the trip Aug. 18 and did not know the other members in the Sierra Club hiking group. She was last seen Aug. 20 near Horsehead Lake 100 miles northeast of Fresno. The sheriff’s office was notified she was missing 5 a.m. Aug. 21.
There were three-dozen searchers earlier this week, the sheriff’s office said, including crews from the counties of Kern, Tulare, San Luis Obispo, Marin, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Mateo, Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park, the California Highway Patrol and the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA).
