What The Police Are Really For

Before you get rid of the police, you have to understand why they exist in the first place. Without police, you have roving bands of citizens who will simply take justice into their own hands, and they aren't constrained by rules of engagement or process. The police, in truth, exist to protect criminals from the public, because without a neutral law enforcement mechanism, the justice of the mob is far harsher, and more prone to error.
