Buy This Tahoe Home & Get 1 Year Free At Ski School

A year of $35K tuition to Sugar Bowl Academy, a high school for competitive skiers, comes with this new, slopeside residence in Norden.

NORDEN, CA -- Employing a novel marketing twist, sellers of this $2.65 million home in the Lake Tahoe region are offering buyers one year of paid tuition to the college-prep high school for competitive skiers, Sugar Bowl Academy -- a $35,000 value.

The sleek, four-bedroom Norden residence, built in 2018, is a 3,375-square-foot, open-floor-plan contemporary in Sugar Bowl's quaint North Village. And having a ski academy in your backyard could complete that mountain-home lifestyle.

“This community is attracting a high caliber of buyers who see something missing from the more ‘commercial’ ski resort villages,” said Jeff Hamilton of Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty. “For many, the ski academy is one of the missing elements and sellers are nurturing that connection to the community.”

Hamilton a former winter Olympian and parent of an SBA grad, added that “It is one of the few academies offering a ski-in, ski-out experience at the base of a world-class mountain that backs to one of the largest nordic centers in America.”

While there are about 20 similar ski academies across the U.S. in Colorado, Idaho, Utah and on the East Coast, Sugar Bowl Academy is the only school in California to focus its sports program entirely on skiing – downhill, nordic and freeride, he said.

"Sugar Bowl Academy is unique among ski academies in that it is located right on the mountain allowing for training and school to integrate and for immersion in the full mountain lifestyle,” said Sidney Scott, a Sugar Bowl homeowner and parent of SBA students.

During winter in the village, streets are transformed into cross-country ski trails with no automobile access. Cars are left behind as homeowners are transported to their residences via a comfortable, heated snow cat.

“This place was designed for sophisticated adventure seekers,” Hamilton said. “Once the snow falls, it becomes a snowbound village with an authentic European feel. It’s pretty fantastic to see the streets come alive with skiers and kids towing sleds instead of cars.”

During the summer, homeowners have access to hiking and biking trails and Sugar Bowl’s private Lake Mary, an oasis for swimming, paddle boarding, boating and fishing.

Other amenities include such 24-hour VIP village services as grocery delivery and house-warming prior to a homeowner’s arrival. Owners and SBA students also share access to the Sporthaus, which includes a pool, spa, sauna, steam rooms, world-class training and fitness facilities, massage rooms and yoga classes.
