California Snowboarder Jamie Anderson Wins Olympic Gold

Jamie Anderson won first place for women's slopestyle.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA -- Snowboarder Jamie Anderson will bring home an Olympic gold medal when she returns to California. Anderson of South Lake Tahoe won first place Sunday in women's slopestyle in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Anderson's win came on a day of extreme wind gusts with CBS reporting that "a number of competitors took spills or bailed on their attempts, helping Anderson hold onto that top spot."

"Anderson put together a tremendous run to close out the first round, scoring an outstanding 83.00 in her initial trip down the slope and jumping to the top of the standings. She was lights out in the rails section, then went 540 on her second-to-last hit before closing out with a 720 off the last jump," CBS reported.

Anderson, 27, is no stranger to the event as she also scored gold during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. CBS said Anderson is the "first woman to win multiple Olympic gold medals in snowboarding."

The win is even more noteworthy as "Anderson had to fight injuries — both physical and mental — to earn her second Olympic title," Time magazine reported.
