Here are the top stories in Sacramento today:
- At least 83 aftershocks have rumbled through the region since the magnitude 6.0 shaker hit the California/Nevada border on Thursday, including half a dozen that were magnitude 4.0 or higher. The initial quake was felt as far away as West Sacramento and Folsom. There is a 5% chance of one or more aftershocks that would be larger than the original quake, but it is very likely there will be more smaller quakes in the days to come. (ABC10)
- Sacramento Fire responded to a blaze at Pro Audio on Franklin Blvd on Thursday night. When they arrived the flames had spread to a nearby home. Residents were inside when the fire erupted, but were unharmed. They will be displaced as the investigation unfolds. (ABC10)
- Mask color will have to be part of the wardrobe consideration for schoolkids in Sacramento when they return to the classrooms. California has decided to keep the mask mandate in place, contrary to CDC recommendations. California public health leaders say they are keeping the mask guidance for schools in place to ensure all kids are treated equally. (CBS Sacramento)
- This Elk Grove wrestler is making a name for herself by securing a spot on the team for the Pan Am Games! Skye Schneider is a 13-year-old powerhouse that has only been wresting for 2 1/2 years. Just six months after taking up the sport she won the California Triple Crown in Greco, Freestyle and Folkstyle and now she's representing Sacramento on the national stage! Way to go, Skye!
- With billionaire moguls leaving the state and the loss of a congressional seat, it may seem like there is a mass exodus from California, but a recent study done by the University of California says that's not so. People still believe in the California Dream of prosperity and fun in the Golden State. And the perspective that dollars are no longer being invested here is just an illusion. California’s economy attracts as much venture capital as all other states combined. So, relax Sacramento. Take a load off and stay awhile! (CBS Sacramento)
