- Did you get your safe and sane fireworks when they went on sale yesterday? It's a great way to help raise funds for some worthy causes, but they come with some risks. Understand firework safety so you'll have a "bang up" time without a hospital visit. (City of Sacramento)
- A Better Meat Company is opening a plant in West Sacramento that will experiment in alternative proteins. “Three years ago, [we were] a small group of volunteers who had a vision. It was a vision for a future food company that would reduce humanity’s footprint on the planet," said owner Paul Shapiro. (Daily Sacramento News)
- The Department of Utilities has recently begun repairs on the city's flood control system. Crews are removing debris that can cause localized flooding, repairing bridges and creek beds, as well as mowing vegetation that is a fire hazard. Prior to beginning the work, the department partnered with local services to provide support for anyone camping in the areas. (Sacramento City Express)
- A Sac Metro fire captain is being hit with weapons charges after a cache of allegedly illegal weapons and weapon parts were found in his home. He is contending that California weapons laws are so complex that it is virtually impossible for "regular citizens" to comply. Although ATF made the original discovery, he has not been charged at the federal level, but he has been charged at the state level. (Sac Bee)

- Maybe you'd rather clear away the Monday blues with a run. Fleet Feet and SacYard Community Tap House are teaming up to bring you The Sun Run Challenge. They will be holding a sunrise and a sunset run with prizes and a raffle for those who complete both. (7 am; 7 pm)
- Join the Sac Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Bee for an online discussion called Tuesdays at 2. This week Francisco Castillo, Union Pacific Senior Director of Public Affairs, and Debra Schrampfer, Union Pacific AVP Workforce Resources & Chief Diversity Officer will be on hand to discuss the importance of diversity in the workplace. (2 pm)
- If you want an adults night out, try comedy at The Canyon in Folsom. The material can get a bit racy, but if you want to live a little on the edge give this one a shot! (7 pm)
- Open mic night returns to The Comedy Spot! If you've got the nerves, they've got the stage! Join them as a performer or an audience member. Either way, you are sure to remember your experience. Get your tickets in advance. Sales close at 7 pm. (8 pm)

- The good Samaritan that helped the hit and run victim in the Safeway parking lot has been released from the hospital and is doing well. The community raised over $27K for her with GoFundMe.
- The Sacramento office of the FBI is accepting self-nominees for its Citizen's Academy. The Citizens Academy is an engaging six-to-eight-week program that gives business, religious, civic, and community leaders an inside look at the FBI. Nominations can also be made by FBI employees, former Citizens Academy graduates, and community leaders.
