- Authorities are investigating after a woman was shot outside of a cardroom near downtown Sacramento. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The woman's identity has not been released and police have not said what they believe led up to the shooting. (ABC10)
- Sacramento has sent two members of its Urban Search and Rescue team to Florida to help with the Surfside condominium recovery efforts. Sacramento Fire structural engineers Zachary Siviglia and Jon Sampson will assist with the efforts working directly with FEMA in Florida, according to a Sacramento Fire spokesman. (CBS Sacramento)
- A new NCAA rule went into effect that allows college athletes to monetarily benefit from their name, image and likeness. This Sac State guard didn't waste any time putting up his branded merch, Anyway Necessary. (KCRA3)
- These two (hot) dogs have a reason to celebrate this 4th! They were rescued from a fire in a triplex in South Sacramento on Friday. I'm not sure how they're going to feel about the fireworks after that harrowing experience, though! (FOX40)
- Do you know how to report illegal firework activity? Officials would prefer you not call 911 or other emergency lines unless someone is injured or there is imminent threat of injury. Otherwise, here are the dos and don'ts of reporting. (Sacramento City Express)
Sunday events in Sacramento
- Arden Park is having a bike parade with music from Funk Shui, a kid zone and hamburgers and hot dogs! (10 am)
- Come and join the Campus Commons 4th of July parade! All are welcome! Walk, bring your bikes, wheelchairs or wagons and join the fun! Don't forget to decorate in red, white and blue. (10:30 am)
- Cottage Park celebrates the 4th of July with swimming, music and free food! (2 pm)
- Celebrate on the Delta King with hot dogs and music and watch the fireworks over the Sacramento River. (2 pm)
- Elk Grove is doing it right with a fireworks spectacular at the Elk Grove Auto Mall. There will be fireworks, food and music with free rides provided by SacRT. (6 pm)
- Rancho Cordova's got you covered with music and fireworks. (6 pm)
- Of course, if you're in Folsom, you can't miss the pro rodeo. They'll have rodeo events followed by fireworks and the outdoor saloon to celebrate the 4th! (6 pm)
- Celebrate the Red, White & Brew at Drake's Barn! There will be fireworks, unlimited tacos and a "silent disco" on the lawn (whatever that is). 21+ only (6:30 pm)
- And if you're looking for the mother of all spectaculars this 4th of July, it's Fourth on the Field at Sutter Health Park (formerly Raley Field) for you! Their fireworks will be accompanied by a live performance from the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra! (7 pm)
