One Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In West Sacramento
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on West Capitol Avenue, police said.
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA — One man died early Saturday in West Sacramento after he was shot by police officers who were responding to a call in the 1800 block of West Capitol Avenue.
In a Facebook post, the West Sacramento Police Department said officers responded to the area around 3 a.m. after someone reported seeing an approximately 30-year-old Black man with a gun.
Police said officers arrived and spoke with a man who was not the subject of the 911 call. Officers then found another man, described only as an adult Black man, sitting in a car at Merkley and Poplar Avenues.

In the Facebook post, police said the man got out of the car with a handgun and "a shooting ensued."
Emergency medical workers were called to the scene, where they worked to save the man's life. He was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The man's name has not been released as of writing.

Police said the officers involved with the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while Davis Police Department conducts an investigation.
Of six officers on the scene, four were involved with the shooting, police said. Among the officers was a sergeant with some 15 years of police experience and three officers with 5 years or less of experience.
