Top 5 Stories in Sacramento

  1. The hottest day of the year is not the best time for the power to go out, but that's exactly what happened to nearly 200 SMUD customers in Midtown yesterday. A large tree branch fell taking out a power pole and a parked car. Residents were without power for most of the day. No injuries were reported. (FOX40)
  2. If your drinking water is tasting a little "earthy" blame the drought. Low river levels are to blame for the slightly "off" taste and smell according to Sacramento Utility staff. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. The City of Sacramento is seeking a restraining order against a staff member who was recently hired by District 4 Councilwoman Katie Valenzuela. This staff member has posted some questionable language to social media about City Manager Howard Chan and his family. See an attorney's take on the legality of that decision here. (FOX40)
  4. Folsom ranked 3rd best lake beach town to live in in the US in a survey by Wallethub. The area ranked in the top 10 for affordability, weather, economy, education and health, and quality of life. Way to represent for Sacramento County, Folsom! (ABC10)
  5. The public is invited to attend one of two redistricting workshops taking place virtually next week. Attendees will have an opportunity for public comment on communities of interest and potential district boundaries. (Saccounty.net)

  • Sacre bleu! The Sacramento French Film Festival has started! It will be part virtual and part in theaters, so brush up on your French or get ready for the subtitles! (All day)
  • If you're looking for resources for seniors in Sacramento, this drive-thru event is for you! Many local organizations and services will be represented. Pre-registration required. (10 am)
  • Pause and honor the those enslaved in California who paid the price for our freedom at the 2021 Juneteenth From Slavery To Freedom Celebration at the State Capitol. (11:30)
  • Climb aboard an excursion train in Old Sac and enjoy the rails the way they did in the early part of the last century! This 50 minute excursion is brought to you by the Sacramento Railroad Museum. (2:30 pm)
  • Capital Storytelling is holding a Main Event! Five storytellers will share true personal stories on the theme of "Journey." The event will take place on Zoom. (7 pm)
