San Diego Home Sales Spike in March, Realtors Organization Says

SAN DIEGO - Sales of existing homes in San Diego County rose sharply in March, compared to a lackluster February, but were down slightly from a year ago, according to statistics released Friday by the San Diego Association of Realtors.

A total of 2,012 single-family homes changed ownership in the region last month, up nearly 35 percent from the prior month, but 1.2 percent below the comparable prior-year level.

The median sales price of a house in March was $575,030, up 2.1 percent from the prior month and 5 percent higher than the same period the previous year.

SDAR recorded 1,019 condominium and townhouse sales, up nearly 40 percent from February but down 5.4 percent from March 2016.

The median condo price last month was $390,500. That's 1.8 percent above February, and nearly 8.5 percent above the price tag in March 2016.

"Spring is the busiest time for home buyers and sellers," said SDAR President Bob Kevane. "We can expect strong home sales and steady appreciation, and hopefully that will encourage more people to test the waters to find or move up to their dream home."

According to SDAR, the San Diego County zip codes in with the most single-family home sales in March were 92028 (Fallbrook) with 60; 92057 (Oceanside North) with 59; 92127 (Rancho Bernardo West) with 56; 92114 (Encanto) with 54; and 92128 (Rancho Bernardo East) and 91977 (Spring Valley), both with 52.

The most expensive property sold in the county last month was a 10,500- square-foot estate in Rancho Santa Fe with five bedrooms and nine bathrooms, which fetched $5.7 million.
