Green Rehabs at Rodeo Gateway and Mackey Terrace

As a nonprofit organization, EAH Housing is committed to creating affordable housing opportunities across California and Hawai'i.

As a nonprofit organization, EAH Housing is committed to creating affordable housing opportunities across California and Hawai’i, but it is equally committed to helping the environment, as well. By retrofitting properties with new, more efficient features and appliances, the apartments are more affordable in the long term and keep the buildings themselves more sustainable. Thus far, EAH has already rehabilitated twenty properties.

Most recently, Rodeo Gateway and Mackey Terrace received renovations to make the properties more environmentally-friendly. These are both senior communities where residents may predominantly be living on fixed incomes.

Both Rodeo Gateway and Mackey Terrace were retrofitted with Energy Star refrigerators, which use fewer than 374 kilowatt hours per year. This is a great improvement from the appliance models that used upwards of 800 prior to switching. Exterior and common area lighting fixtures were replaced with LED lighting, as were fixtures within each apartments. By putting in solar photovoltaic panels as well, EAH is able to reduce the cost of utilities. And, in replacing outdated original water heaters with heat pump hot water heaters, the new units are able to save three times as much energy.
