Happy Summer Solstice, San Francisco!

How are you making the most of the longest day of the year?

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Today is the summer solstice when the northern hemisphere experiences the most hours of daylight all year.

Here in San Francisco, the weather cooperated with the official first day of summer by bathing us in abundant sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures. You can enjoy your extra daylight with a stroll along the waterfront or your favorite park.

There are also organized observances of the solstice, the grandest being the Surrealistic Summer Solstice Concert and Grand Lighting outside the Conservatory of Flowers. That free event kicks off at 6 p.m. and promises to be amazing! Organizers welcome visitors to "Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love on the first evening of summer with the first public display of the light art installation that will transform the Conservatory into a canvas of elegant illuminated scenes every night through October and a free Surrealistic Summer Solstice jam revisiting the iconic songs of the late 1960s. Produced by Dawn Holliday, under the musical direction of Dan "Lebo" Lebowitz, the almost four hour jam includes appearances by members of ALO, Ratdog, The Jefferson Airplane, Motherhips, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Tarnation, Katdelic, Terrapin Family Band, New Monsoon, Moonalice, Lester and Dylan Chambers, and more." If you bring your car the parking is a flat fee of $17.
