Man Shot To Death In SF ID'd

A suspect in last Saturday's killing has been arrested.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 26-year-old man fatally shot in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood late Saturday night has been identified by the medical examiner's office as Luis Velasquez-Mejia, a resident of the city.

Police had responded at 11:45 p.m. Saturday to the 500 block of Naples Street and found Velasquez-Mejia, who died at the scene.

Investigators identified 22-year-old San Francisco resident Jonathan Escobar as the suspect and served a search warrant at a home in the 2800 block of 24th Street at about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Escobar allegedly fled out of a window and onto the roof of the building and did not comply with orders from officers. Tactical officers responded and were able to arrest him after a three-hour standoff, police said.
