Man Slashed In Face By Panhandler In San Francisco
The victim suffered a "severe" cut in the attack near Union Square. Police have made an arrest.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A suspect has been arrested in connection with an attack on a man who was slashed in the face Wednesday morning near Union Square after the victim declined a request for money, San Francisco police said on social media.
Around 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Powell Street, in between Geary and O'Farrell streets, for a report of an assault, police said. They found a 34-year-old man suffering from a large laceration to his face described by police as "severe."
The victim was taken to a hospital for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Witnesses told officers the suspect initially approached the victim and asked for money. When the victim said he didn't have any, the suspect began yelling and brandished a knife, cutting the victim's face before running away.
Police circulated a description along with surveillance photos and credited a community member who spotted the suspect and called 911, leading to an arrest by officers from the Ingleside Station.
