Penguin Chicks Learn To Swim At San Francisco Zoo
Their reaction: Get out of wading pool as quickly as possible!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Zoo's five Magellanic penguin chicks got their first swimming lesson on Thursday.
The two-month-old chicks are currently attending "fish school" to learn the basics of being a zoo penguin, including learning how to eat a whole fish, swimming and becoming socialized with their caretakers.
Thursday's dip in the wading pool was their first immersion in water. Their reaction was to get out as soon as possible.

Starting Friday, the public can participate in a naming contest for the chicks by visiting the zoo during their 3:30 p.m. penguin feeding time. The naming contest is open at the zoo every day through July 26.
The zoo requests a $5 donation to enter the contest, with the money benefiting penguin conservation.
