SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police have arrested a 24-year-old San Francisco man in connection with March 18 shooting that followed a road-rage incident.

Evonta Bailey was taken into custody Wednesday in San Leandro following an investigation by the San Francisco Police Department's gang task force. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of several violations, including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an assault weapon.

The arrest stems from a March 18 report of a shooting at 3:05 p.m. in the area of Thomas Avenue and Quint Street. When officers arrived, witnesses said they had heard gunshots and seen two vehicles drive away at a high rate of speed.

While on the scene, dispatch informed officers that a gunshot victim had been privately transported to a local hospital.

Officers responding to the hospital found a 25-year-old man who had been shot being treated for life-threatening injuries, as well as a 13-year-old boy being treated for non-life-threatening injuries related to the incident but who had not been hit by gunfire.

Officers determined that the shooting followed a road rage incident at 3rd Street and Palou Avenue. Police said Bailey followed the two victims and fired at them with an automatic rifle while they were in their vehicle, before he ran to a waiting vehicle, being driven by a second suspect, got in and fled the scene.

Investigators from the gang task force took over and arrested Bailey, who was wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor as a requirement of his federal probation for felon in possession of a firearm.

No update was provided on the condition of the shooting victim.
