South San Francisco Takes First at San Mateo County Fair
SSF Improving Public Places Committee took first place with three blue ribbons for the Competitive Horticulture Events.

From South San Francisco: The City of South San Francisco's Improving Public Places Committee (IPP) has a green thumb and for the second year in a row, the City has three Blue Ribbons to show for it.
The Improving Public Places Committee entered three displays at the San Mateo County Fair and won three first place awards. The Committee's displays included:
* A community landscape beautification project featuring Francisco Terrace Park, which was a three-sided freestanding display with images of volunteers, plant materials, and before and after photos of the site.

* Restoration of our county's natural landscape, which was a four-sided display featuring Brentwood Park. This display celebrates the planting of native plants, trees, and reopening of the park.
* An amateur garden landscape, designed by IPP volunteer and retired Parks Supervisor, Dave Venturini. He was assisted by retired Parks Supervisor Dennis Crossland who provided a painting as a colorful prop to the artist's garden.

The three displays earned Improving Public Place $1,300, which will be used to beautify public areas in South San Francisco. The exhibits can be seen in the Redwood Hall at the San Mateo County Fair.

"I'm pleased that the efforts of South San Francisco's Improving Public Places Committee to enhance green spaces are recognized and appreciated by others outside of our city community," said South San Francisco Councilmember, Karyl Matsumoto.
The Improving Public Places Committee is a group of people sharing a common vision of beautifying various public places in South San Francisco. These places include City parks and facilities, as well as other highly visible public areas within the City. The Committee is run by volunteers and host quarterly plantings and clean-up events.
"Our Improving Public Places Committee is passionate about giving back to the community and we are delighted to bring awareness to our wonderful public program by sharing news of our Blue Ribbon wins at the County Fair," said IPP volunteer, Marie Patea.
