Wet Weather To Blanket Bay Area In Days-long Streak

Let's hope Santa leaves some nice games or books to help pass the time.

BAY AREA — Just a few days after the official start of winter, two storms are bearing down on Northern California and the National Weather Service predicts four straight days of rain, starting on Christmas day.

While there's an 80 percent chance of rain on Friday, tapering off on Saturday, the weather service has not issued any advisories or warnings.

The rain will move north to south through the Bay Area, so kids in the South Bay will have longer to try-out Christmas presents outside before the rain starts to fall.

The first storm, on Friday and Saturday, will bring up to 1.5 inches of rain to the North Bay, up to an inch in San Francisco and on the Peninsula, up to a half-inch in the East Bay and South Bay, and up to an inch in the Santa Cruz Mountains, including the burn scar.

The second storm arrives on Sunday and tapers off on Monday. Rainfall totals for the second storm will be similar to the first, with the exception of the Santa Cruz Mountains which will receive up to 1.5 inches of rain in the burn scar. The weather service says there is a "limited potential for debris flows this week, but stay alert for any orders from local officials if there's prolonged heavy rain and you live near a burn scar."

Before the rain arrives, the weather service reminds you to clean out your gutters and storm drains. If you have to drive in the rain, leave extra space between vehicles because of slick roads, and do not cross flooded roadways.

A slight chance of rain will linger into Tuesday.
