4 HR’s AS CSM BLANKS CHABOT, 25-0 IN SB;

GRECH & PROCK COMBINE FOR 1-HIT SHORT OF PERFECT

HAYWARD -- Home runs by Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen, Kaylyn Sterling, Riley Donovan, and Avery Revera accounted for ten runs as College of San Mateo shutout host Chabot College, 25-0, in a Coast North softball game Thursday afternoon.

The repeating Coast North champion Bulldogs, the state’s winningest team at 36-2, are 13-0 in league play and have a state-best 29-game winning streak.

Ally Sarabia tripled home leadoff hitter Aubrie Businger with the only run the Bulldogs needed to start the game. Kait Grech pitched a “perfect” first two innings, striking out four of the six batters she faced. She is 5-0 with a 0.57 E.R.A. Brittany Prock gave up the Gladiators' lone hit in three innings of relief, striking out seven and walking none. Together the pair faced 16 batters, just one over the minimum. Grech also doubled home Sarabia with the game’s second run for her team leading 48th RBI (No. 5 in the state).

The homer barrage started in the third inning with Weitenhagen’s 2-run blast. (She had also doubled home Sarabia in the second inning.) There were three more home runs in the fifth and final (mercy) frame, which CSM entered with a 16-0 lead: Sterling (as a pinch-hitter) and Donovan each had 3-run shots and Revera capped it with a 2-run homer.

Weitenhagen ranks second in the state with 12 home runs, all in March and April. With a 4-for-5 day, she raised her batting average to .495 and slugging percentage to .979. Donovan is batting .417 and slugging .729. Sterling is hitting .407 and slugging .667.

Chabot is 2-21, 1-11 in CN play.

CSM closes out regular season play at Coast North rival Ohlone College (19-16, 7-6 CN) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Ohlone and Foothill currently share second place at 7-6, six games behind the Bulldogs.
