7 People Displaced In Peninsula Fire, Cause Likely Home Repairs

Fire officials say they believe the fire may have been sparked as repairs were being made on a bathroom pipe.

DALY CITY, CA — Seven people were displaced by a fire Wednesday afternoon in Daly City that probably started as the homeowner was sweating some copper pipe to fix a leak in a bathroom, a fire inspector with the North County Fire Authority said.

Firefighters responded at 2:59 p.m. to a fire in the 500 block of Vista Grande Avenue and when they arrived they saw smoke coming out of the attic and eaves of a two-story, single-family row house.

Crews entered the home through the front door and saw flames and heavy smoke coming through a bathroom wall, which connected two homes. The fire was hard to find because it was in a wall, Fire Inspector Clyde Preston said.

Firefighters contained the fire to the wall and attic areas, but damage from smoke extended throughout both homes, fire officials said.

Residents displaced by the fire received help with housing from the American Red Cross. No one was injured.
