NO. 8 CCSF HOLDS OFF CSM IN LONE CC BASKETBALL GAME PLAYED WED. NIGHT

SAN MATEO -- College of San Mateo fought valiantly with state No. 8 ranked City College of San Francisco before the visiting Ram women took over in the fourth quarter to score a 69-55 victory Wednesday evening.

There were eight lead changes and four ties – with the margin of difference only once reaching more than two scores in the first half. CCSF held a 33-31 lead at the break. CSM trailed by just one point, 38-37, midway through the third period before the Rams went on a 17-5 run -- including six straight points to start the fourth quarter -- to take a 56-42 lead that also proved to be the final margin.

For San Mateo, Oceana grad Kyana Wiley had 11 points (nine in the first half), eight rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocks. Emily Latu scored ten points. Nandi Eskridge (Oceana) had eight points and six rebounds. Kaitlyn Tamondong scored eight points and had three steals and three assists.

San Francisco got 22 points from Samantha Erisman. The Menlo School grad maintains a 22.6 season average, No. 5 in the state. Ma’ata Makoni, out of Sacred Heart Prep, had 18 points. Errayana Hatfield added 17 – a bit below her No. 7 state average of 21.6.

San Mateo did hold the high scoring Rams well below their 84.1-point season average (which ranks No. 4 among the state’s 97 teams). San Francisco had scored more than 100 points in three of its previous four games. CSM coach Michelle Warner utilized all 11 of her players to keep the lineup fresh.

CCSF is 13-2, with only one loss in Northern California, and leads the Coast North at 2-0. San Mateo fell to 6-9 and 1-2.

UP NEXT: San Mateo hosts Las Positas College of Livermore on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the College Heights gym.

WEATHER POSTPONEMENTS:

--This was the only community college game played on the Peninsula Wednesday. The Ohlone at Skyline doubleheader and the Cañada at Foothill men’s game were all postponed due to weather.
