Do YOU try to take your bike on CalTrain? Attend and try to make it easier.

Hello Bicycle Commuters and Supporters,

Your attendance is critical at the public workshop on Caltrain electric train reconfiguration. It's our last chance to get more bike capacity and seats within view of bikes to deter bike theft. The board will vote in June on the final electric train configuration and their decision will be with us for decades!

Learn more about the workshop here

We have examined the possibilities and have two recommendations for train layout.

Recommendation #1

80 bikes per 7-car electric train

Four bike cars, 20 bikes each

Seat-to-bike-space ratio = 8.3:1

Recommendation #2

84 bikes per 7-car electric train

12 bikes in each and every car

Seat-to-bike-space ratio = 7.9:1

See car layout drawings to scale for both recommendations. If you have comments, please let us know.

It will take many voices to convince Caltrain to expand beyond two or three bike cars (their current thinking), so please be sure to attend the workshop! Can't make it? Send an email – find an email link and talking points here.

Help Spread the Word about the April 17 Workshop

Print these flyers and hand them out to your fellow bike commuters on the train. We need to pack the room at the April 17 workshop to influence the decision-makers.

Next Caltrain Board Meeting

Attend the next Caltrain Board meeting and speak up for bikes on board!

When: 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 2

Where: 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos

If you can make it and would like to coordinate comments with us, please reply to this email.

Report All Bicycle Bumps

Please report all bicycle bumps using Caltrain’s bicycle bump report form, which automatically sends a tweet @CaltrainBikes. It is critical for Caltrain to hear about bicycle bumps, especially now!

Thank you for your continued support!

More bikes, no bumps,

Shirley Johnson
