REDWOOD CITY – San Mateo County Supervisor David J. Canepa made the following statement today related to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s trip to El Salvador.
“Gov. Newsom is offering the people of El Salvador a hand of friendship to counter President Trump’s narrow views on immigration and imprudent plans to cut critical aid for a country that has endured decades of political instability and corruption,” Canepa said. “With the election of Nayib Bukele as El Salvador’s new president, we now have an incredible opportunity to work together to strengthen our economic ties and forge a new relationship that will foster hope rather than fear.”
