CSM STATE TRACK & FIELD LEADERS ON STAGE AT HOME SATURDAY

State-leading sprinter Yan-Jun (Sophie) Liao will finally make her home debut for College of San Mateo’s track and field team Saturday (March 23) at the Bob Rush State Preview meet.

The freshman exchange student from Chinese Taipei, who currently resides in Foster City, continued to improve her season best women’s 100 meter time, going under 12 second for the first time in 2019 with a wind-legal 11.92 performance Saturday at Sacramento State’s Hornet Invitational . That is the best legal time for a California Community College woman this year.

--She won the Taipei 100 meter title last year, running 11.64 in Kaoshiung.

Elijah Folau continues to lead the state in the men’s shot put at 49 feet, 5 inches. He’ll share the CSM field stage on Saturday with a pair of women throwers: Taina Livai ranks No. 3 in the women’s javelin throw at 115-3, No. 10 in the discus at 121-6, and No. 15 in the shot put at 36-5 3/4. Teme Fanguna is No. 4 in the discus throw at 129-6 and No. 12 in the shot put at 37-3 3/4.

--Saturday’s state preview meet gets underway at 9 a.m. with field events and 10 a.m. with running events.

San Mateo will host the CCCAA state championships, May 17-18.
