The Bulldogs freshman merely improved her state-leading women’s 100 meter time to 11.86 seconds -- while chasing Brianna Rollins-McNeal in both the prelims and finals.

Liao drew the first heat of the four talent-packed qualifying heats and finished second in 11.94 as Rollins-McNeal – the 2016 Olympic champion in the 100 meter hurdles -- posted the best qualifying time of 11.53, hindered slightly by a 0.6 meters per second headwind.

Rollins-McNeal won the finals in 11.43, again with a slight headwind (0.1). Liao, the reigning national champion for Chinese Taipei, placed a strong fifth, just behind Maisie Stevens of Cal (11.80).

There were 32 competitors in the preliminary field at Stanford, many from NCAA Division I universities throughout the country. Only nine made the final.

--Liao lowered her previous season best and state lead from 11.92 which she had run at Sacramento State’s Hornet Invitational on March 15.

FOLAU HAS LONG SHOT: Elijah Folau improved his No. 2 state ranking in the men’s shot put with a heave of 49-11 inches at Stanford over the weekend, placing fifth overall in a nationwide field (which included collegians from Minnesota and Boston U). The CSM freshman added six inches to his previous best with the 16-pound implement, set March 8 at Modesto.

--The San Mateo track team returns home to host other Northern California teams in a day-long open meet on Friday (April 5).
